Florin Court

1936

Architect: Guy Morgan

Flats range from studios to two bedrooms. Flats arranged around single core and pair of internal corridors with additional two escape stairs. The plan form was contrived to afford the maximum number of flats with views over the square. Economy of rent was the key driver for this building, so space standards are slim. But the interior design and common services are special. Windows are non-standard. There are lockers adjoining flat entrances to facilitate deliveries and meter inspections. There was originally a restaurant, cocktail bar and club room with kitchen as well as squash courts. There is also a garage. The contractor was J Gerrard and Sons Ltd. And yes - this is the one in the credit sequence for ‘Poirot’.
